Lohmann studied church music and school music at the Cologne University of Music. He also studied musicology, philosophy, and geography at the University of Cologne. He received his doctorate in 1981 with a dissertation on articulation on keyboard instruments. His dissertation received considerable attention from the professional community.
However, some key statements have been the subject of professional criticism, particularly by musicologist Hans Klotz. After teaching at the Cologne University of Music, he was appointed professor at the Stuttgart University of Music. He is also the organist at St. Eberhard Cathedral there. www.ludgerlohmann.de THE GREAT ORGAN IN THE VOTIVE CHURCH The historic organ in the Votive Church was built in 1878 by the renowned organ-building firm EF Walcker and inspected by Anton Bruckner.
Renowned composers and organists have treasured, played, and used this instrument as a model for their sound. Fortunately, the instrument is in almost original condition and is considered one of the most important organs in Europe.
