About the event
Michel Bouvard was born in Lyon in 1958. His grandfather, Jean Bouvard, was a composer and organist (* 1905 in Lyon) and studied with Louis Vierne, Florent Schmitt, Vincent d'Indy, and Paul Dukas.
Michel Bouvard received his training in Rodez and subsequently studied organ with André Isoir and composition at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. He completed his studies with Michel Chapuis, Francis Chapelet, and Jean Boyer and was appointed organist at St-Séverin de Paris.
In 1983, Michel Bouvard won the Toulouse International Organ Competition. In 1985, he succeeded Xavier Darasse at the Conservatoire National de Région in Toulouse. Together with Jan Willem Jansen, he is the artistic director of the Toulouse les Orgues Festival.
In 1995, Michel Bouvard, along with Olivier Latry and Loïc Mallié, was appointed professor of organ at the CNSMD in Paris, succeeding Michel Chapuis. Since 1996, he has been titular organist of the organ at St-Sernin de Toulouse, and since 2010, co-titular organist of the Palace Chapel of Versailles.
His students include Pierre Jean Schoen and Jean-Baptiste Dupont.
